You will likely have received an email from Netball Victoria today, with their updated concussion guidelines.

Managing concussion well in the early stages is vitally important. Most concussions are mild and recover completely without complications, following the new guidelines gives the best chance of being in this category.

Below is a copy of the NV email- I’ve also added their Concussion Guidelines as a document on this post and under the Documents tab on our team app home page so it’s easy to refer back to. This includes a sideline assessment flow chart and Graded Return to Sport Framework. The document also has links to other resources and SCAT6 assessment forms that should be taken to a medical professional in the event of a concussion.

All suspected concussions are required to be assessed by a medical professional, using the SCAT6 forms (Sports Concussion Assessment Tool). There are two different assessment forms for Adults/Children > 13 yrs; and Children under 13 years.

I also encourage everyone to download the HeadCheck app, a great tool to guide an individual concussion recovery.

The AFL Community Hub website also has great resources on concussion.

“Netball Australia has released important updates to the concussion protocols for all levels of sport, including community netball. The new guidelines, which are designed to protect the health and well-being of all participants, are in alignment with the recent Australian Institute of Sport’s Concussion and Brain Health Position Statement. They have been prepared by Netball Australia’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Laura Lallenec in conjunction with Member Organisations, Suncorp Super Netball teams and the Australia Netball Players’ Association.

Netball Victoria are aligning themselves to these newest guidelines, effective immediately.

We are excited to announce that we will be holding an information session with Netball Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Laura Lallenec, to go through the new guidelines and understand their importance amongst our netball community. We would love to see as many people as possible join in to gain a greater understanding of such an important part of our sport.”
